How Good Does A Good Day Need To Be

Not bad...
Not bad
You call it “not bad” With a grin you can't hide
You look down at your hands
Like you've just told a lie
You know how to take bad news.
You've had your share of that
But a day with nothing wrong in it
Can make you watch your back
How good does a good day need to be
Before you quit talking it down
You get the word wrong twice.
You laugh the second time
Your hands do half the talking.
You get on just fine
You try to tell it later.
You can't make much of that
A wrong word and a long laugh.
You leave it at “not bad.”
How good does a good day need to be
Before you quit talking it down
You came back with nothing to show for it, Still grinning at nothing at all
You didn't get richer.
You didn't get wise
For once you weren't waiting
For the rest of your life
You start with “It was only...” Then stop
You were there.
You know
How goooood does a good day need to be
Before you quit talking it down
You came back with nothing to show for it, Still grinning at nothing at all
You didn't get richer.
You didn't get wise
For once you weren't waiting
For the rest of your liiiife
Good.
Just...
Good
