I learned not every wound needs to be explained

I thought healing meant forgetting now
I know better, healing is remembering without feeling the same pain
It's hearing an old song and not needing to leave the room
It's seeing the familiar street and realizing you can keep walking
The past can stay behind you
Without becoming your enemy

Don't carry what isn't yours
Wounds, they don't make me weak
They remind me of everything
I survive
Wounds, some become invisible
But every one of them taught me how to protect what matters now
I won't hide them, I won't worship them
That's simply proof that
I kept going
There were nights when
I blamed myself
For trusting the wrong people, for staying too long
For believing promises that had no future but
I was learning and learning is rarely clean
You make choices with the information you have
Later you understand more
That's not failure, it's being human so
I stopped punishing the person
I used to be
Did the best he could with what he knew

No shame, no hiding
Let the scars breathe
Let the old pain leave
